Who are we hiring?
MSG is looking for an I/O Technician to join a groundbreaking studio technology department based in Burbank. The I/O Technician is responsible for facilitating the smooth ingest, egest, organization, and delivery of digital asset media across a wide range of platforms and mechanisms. This role requires experience with Aspera, SharePoint, AWS and GCP transfer workflows, working knowledge of all enterprise and prosumer-level data transfer platforms, and basic understanding of post-production and studio media pipelines. The I/O Technician is responsible for owning the communication around all requests from submission to completion, and coordinating efforts with multiple departments across the Engineering, Operations, and Post-Production teams.
The ideal candidate is deeply familiar with digital I/O and physical I/O operations, operating systems, drive hardware, and scripting/command-line tools. They will have the opportunity to work with proprietary toolsets related to Sphere’s groundbreaking capture and display technology pipelines and help shape department procedure and workflow as the studio grows. Should be a positive team player with a keen interest in developing technologies and enthusiasm for the future of entertainment.
What will you do?
- Organize, track, and catalogue the ingest of files and prepare deliverables via digital file transfer programs and physical hard drives.
- Service enterprise data ingest and egest needs of multiple creative partners with strict operational and security protocols.
- Prep, track, and deliver drives to and from tangential departments (VFX, color, audio) as well as 3rd party vendors to maintain quality assurance and high level of detail across all in-bound and out-bound activity.
- Work closely with development ops teams in-house on the refinement and deployment of custom toolsets to meet Sphere’s unique data I/O needs.
- Assist with implementing protocols, processes, and workflows around these toolsets to ensure preparedness for deliverables and audits.
What do you need to succeed?
- Minimum of three years’ experience as a I/O technician or data wrangler in high-end post-production. Some vault experience a plus.
- Experience working with departments spread over multiple locations and interfacing with VFX, audio, color, and 3rd party vendors.
- Aspera experience required, strong working knowledge of enterprise data platforms and cloud services (AWS/GCP) strongly preferred.
- Experience with Shotgrid and Jira Service Management strongly preferred.
- Primary working hours will be weekday Swing and weekend shifts, determined on a job-to-job basis. Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work independently.
